Apply to Live in a Sch’ eyk Building
Sch’ eyk Housing Society currently manages 5 Rent Geared to Income and Low End of Market housing properties in Vancouver.
-
Anyone can apply for housing with Sch’ eyk. However, Sch’ eyk prioritizes applicants who earn a low-annual income (as defined by BC Housing) and are able to live independently. The need for affordable housing in Vancouver is much greater than the number of available units and it’s often difficult to predict when a suitable unit will become available.
Applicants are asked to provide income information as part of the application process. All residents in Rent Geared to Income housing are required to complete annual income testing each spring and if their income is deemed higher than BC Housing’s current Income Limit criteria, they will need to move out of their unit.
-
All applications will be reviewed by Sch’ eyk and once deemed complete, your name will be added to the waitlist. If your contact information changes, please contact Sch’ eyk to update your file. Should a suitable unit that matches your profile become available, you will then be contacted for an interview with a property manager.
-
At the interview, you will be asked some general questions about suitability and discuss your housing needs. Please bring a copy of your income verification records and references to the interview.
-
If offered a unit with Sch’ eyk, you receive all the details you need to make your decision about your move including the monthly rent security deposit amounts, tenancy agreement, and relevant policies. All pets require the payment of a pet deposit and parking, when available, is extra.
-
Before occupancy, you will also receive a tour of the building’s amenities, sign the tenancy agreement, and conduct a unit inspection.
Information for Current Residents
All Sch’ eyk properties have bulletin boards located in the common space where important tenant information, community updates and neighbourhood announcements will be posted.
-
Pets are welcome at all Sch’ eyk properties. There is a 2 pet limit per unit and all pets should be registered with the office in case of emergency.
-
-
Guests are allowed for a maximum of 2 weeks. If a guest stays with you longer than 2 weeks, you will need to discuss the change of your household composition and housing may be assessed. Sublets are not permitted.
-
Sch’ eyk maintains a no-smoking policy in all units and common spaces.
We are family-friendly and smoking of cannibis in common spaces is not permitted.
-
Let Property Management know right away if you spot a pest, like bed bugs, mice or other nuisance in your unit or common space. Immediately reporting pest problems early will help both you and your neighbours. Don’t be shy! Property Management maintains relationships with people who work in pest control and want to help.
-
Barbecues (propane, charcoal, or electric) are not permitted on balconies, patios, or anywhere on the premises. This policy is in place due to insurance restrictions and for the safety of all residents. Balconies should be free of clutter. Tenants can request a storage locker if they meet the criteria and there is space.
-
Annual inspections take place each fall. Property management will be in contact and schedule a walkthrough of your unit. If you see something, say something. Email the Property Management office with your concerns or submit a Maintenance Form.
-
Let your Property Manager know who to contact and keep it up-to-date. You can use the Tenant Request Forms in the lobby.
-
If you have a concern you would like Property Management to be aware of, please use the Tenant Complaints Policy and Form and email it to complaints@scheykhousing.ca. Printed forms are also located in the lobby of all Sch’ eyk buildings.

If you live in a Rent Geared to Income unit (Ledingham or George Whitten Place) and the number of people living in your household changes or you experience a change in your income, please update your Property Manager. Income changes could impact your annual income review and/or your eligibility to live in these coveted provincially-subsidized units.
